Quick Answer

Do you like your cabinet doors?

If you like the shape and style of your doors and they are in good condition, painting gives you a fresh new look for less. If your doors look dated, damaged or you want a different style, refacing replaces the doors and drawer fronts while keeping your cabinet boxes.

FAQ

Refacing or Painting: Common Questions

Is it better to reface or paint kitchen cabinets?

It depends on your doors. If you like your door style and the doors are in good condition, painting is usually the better value. If you want a different style or your doors are damaged, refacing is the better choice.

Is refacing more expensive than painting?

Yes. Refacing includes new doors and drawer fronts, so it costs more than painting your existing ones. Both options cost less than replacing the entire kitchen.

Can I change my door style by painting?

No. Painting changes the color and finish, but the door shape stays the same. To change the style, for example from raised panel to shaker, you need refacing.

How long does each option take?

Most cabinet painting projects are completed in 3–5 business days. Refacing usually takes longer because new doors and drawer fronts need to be made and finished.

Can you combine painting and refacing?

Often, yes. Some kitchens keep and paint the cabinet frames while getting new doors and drawer fronts. We recommend the right combination after seeing your cabinets.

Do both options include a warranty?

Yes. Nextcoat cabinet projects are backed by a 1-year warranty.
